BRANCH AGM

7pm, Wednesday, 29th April 2026

EBMC, Seaview Road, Peacehaven

Members are invited and encouraged to attend this important event in the branch’s calendar.

A paid bar and free buffet allow those attending to have an informal gathering before the meeting.  The business, including the election of committee members, will be brief but will allow anyone attending to raise any issue relevant to the branch.  Any feedback and suggestions will be particularly welcome.

This year, we have been fortunate in securing, as our guest speaker, Mike Rumble, a retired Sussex Police officer who served at Brighton, and who will be known to many branch members.  Mike is an experienced and entertaining public speaker who will give a presentation on The History of Sussex Police – something we may think we know all about but will almost certainly find we do not!

The Committee look forward to welcoming you to the branch AGM for a relaxed and entertaining evening.

Social Secretary – Update

Following our AGM in April, we are delighted to announce that Steve Fairmaner has volunteered to join the Committee and take on this role for the Branch. He will not be able to commit to this full time until the end of the year but in the meantime, he is actively researching a coach outing for a boat trip on the Thames to Windsor. Watch this space.

The Dogs Dinner – in MAY

Brighton and District NARPO have organised a social evening at the Hove Greyhound Stadium which includes a three course meal plus an evening of 12 races where you can use all your skill (and luck) to predict which dogs will do well and put a small bet on the outcome. If you have never done it before, it really is a lot of fun, with minimal outlay (minimum bet per race is about £1) but essentially just a good opportunity to get together again.

The date for your calendar is being sent out by email to all members but, for those coming, the doors will open at 5.30pm and the first race starts about 40 minutes later. The cost for the evening is £19.95 to include your entrance ticket, the three course meal with table service and a view of the race track. You get a race card supplied and tote runners to take your bets. It couldn’t be easier.  We have booked 40 places and these will be strictly on a first come first served basis so if you want to join in, email me at brighton@narpo.org with the number /names of guests and I’ll send you the booking form, menu and payment details together with a guide to the various types of bets you can make.  It should be a great evening!

Kayak Taster Sessions

Ivor Fabb is inviting anyone who Kayaks, Canoes or SUPs, (Stand Up Paddleboard), to contact him to see if you can arrange paddling together. For those that haven’t tried any of these yet but want to try, Ivor’s club’s season starts in April. Beginner and taster sessions are open to anyone of any age, (over 6yrs) so contact Ivor by email if you would like to have a go!
